The Best Applications

Selling your handmade items at a craft sale can often be a great experience. Basically all you have to do is make stuff, set up a table and sell!! But first… your application has to be accepted. Here’s a few tips on how to make your application stand out!

1. Research the Market: The event will be either juried or non-juried.   What’s the difference?  Non-juried events are generally organized by community groups; like church bazaars, fundraising committees, schools etc. Where spaces are sold first come first serve. Whereas a Juried event’s vendors are handpicked by a team of event organizers with large focus on vendor products.

Understand their target audience, the types of products they typically feature, and their overall vibe. This will help you tailor your application to fit their expectations.

2. Filling out the application:  Be sure to include your name, your business name and contact information. Include all of your social media business pages and website. ** TIP ** Having a business page of some kind is highly recommended as this gives event organizers the option to get a better look at the type of product lines you make. It also helps to make your business more legitimate and professional. Ensure you complete all areas of the application in full.

Treat the application process as you would a job interview. Present yourself professionally, both in your communication with the organizers and in the materials you submit. Show that you're reliable, committed, and passionate about your craft.

3. Description of your business: Be clear and concise about what sets your handmade products apart. Highlight your craftsmanship, materials used, and any unique techniques or stories behind your creations. ** Tip ** Limiting the types of items you want to sell gives you a better chance of being selected for a juried show. Event organizers have a certain number of spots for each specific craft. Applications that include several different types of crafts make it very difficult to place a vendor in a category, Therefore you may be declined for that reason only.

4. Photos: Be sure to include GREAT photos of your items! Include well lit clear photos of your product. It’s best to keep the photo to 1 item or a group of the same item. Choose your most unique items to send photos of (in a juried event they are always looking for unique items!)

5. Follow Guidelines: Pay close attention to any guidelines or requirements provided by the craft market organizers. Make sure you meet deadlines, provide all necessary information, and adhere to any rules regarding booth setup, pricing, or promotional materials.

6. Give the organizers time to do their selections: They usually provide a deadline date of when you will hear back from them. Trying to contact them before then can prove futile. Keep in mind that sometimes they have hundreds of applications to go through and it’s a lengthy process.  Have faith that your application and products will speak for themselves and you will hear from the organization in due time
